Empowered by the Spirit: A Night with Fr Ken Barker MGL

On May 5th, YMG Adelaide had the privilege of welcoming Fr Ken Barker MGL, founder of the Missionaries of God’s Love, for an evening that deeply enriched our spiritual journey.

Empowered by the Spirit - YMG Session with Fr Ken MGL

Fr Ken shared profound insights into the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the transformative power of prayer, and his personal vocation story.

He emphasised that the Holy Spirit grants charisms—special spiritual gifts such as healing, prophecy, and discernment—not merely for individual benefit but to build and uplift the entire Church community.

One powerful message from Fr Ken was shifting our mindset from "No, I can't," to "Yes, He can." Often, we feel overwhelmed by challenges, believing we can't overcome them by our strength alone. Fr Ken reminded us that with God, everything is possible. When we surrender to Him and rely on His power, He accomplishes extraordinary things through us.

Fr Ken also spoke about the importance of daily prayer and surrender, encouraging us to remain open to the Spirit’s guidance in our lives. His own journey—from a young man discerning his path to founding a missionary congregation—served as a testament to the extraordinary plans God has for each of us when we say “yes” to His call.​
