A Missionary Heart - September Update
This month we had our seventh session of the David series, which explored how every baptised Catholic should embrace their identity as a missionary—equipped not by ability, but by the Holy Spirit. The laity are uniquely positioned to bring the Gospel into workplaces, homes, and friendships. Beyond the session, YMG men enjoyed a wholesome hike, collaborated with the Catenians — a Catholic brotherhood founded in 1908 — and attended a silent retreat at Sevenhill led by Fr. Robin Koning, exploring Ignatian imaginative prayer. Leadership formation continues through weekly Wednesday meetings, building accountability and brotherhood as the year closes.
🗣️YMG South & North - Session 7: Mission & Legacy❤️🔥
📅 September 4th & 18th 2026
Where is God sending you? Not where you want. Not where you expect. Not where you decided for yourself. Whether we realise it or not, we are called to be missionaries. All who are baptised in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are called to be missionaries - not by choice or merit but by identity. Our mission is to spread the Good News, the Gospel, to all.
We may feel as though we are not ready or not equipped. The story of David reminds us of how God works. For God does not look for ability; he looks for our availability. He does not call the equipped; He equips the called. It is often in the ordinary that God is shaping, preparing, and transforming us to live out the mission.
Our role as laity is to go, make disciples, and to teach. Vatican II reminds us of this: as the laity, there are “countless opportunities for exercising the apostolate of evangelisation and sanctification”. Evangelisation is the primary task of the laity. Not just the priest, bishops, or religious. It is the laity. Why?. Because we know the territory. Our workplaces, homes, friendships, etc. All of which the Gospel needs to go.
Evangelisation is not merely a suggestion. It is an obligation. Apostolicam Actuositatem states it plainly: "The member who fails to make his proper contribution to the development of the Church must be said to be useful neither to the Church nor to himself”.
Now we cannot rely merely on willpower alone or grit. We must rely on the power of the Holy Spirit. Only will He give us the courage, strength, and grace to speak up for the truth. We look to Jesus as the perfect example, as He did not evangelise just by his actions but by both word and deed. We cannot become wordless witnesses, simply saying aloud or to ourselves “I don’t talk about my faith. I just live it”. Pope Paul VI was clear — even the best witness"will prove ineffective in the long run if it is not explained, justified . . . and made explicit by a clear and unequivocal proclamation of the Lord Jesus."
So - the question returns. Where is God calling you? Not where you want to be. Not where you decided. Where has He specifically designed for you?
YMG South: September Session 2026
YMG North: September Session 2026
🥾YMG Social: Hike🏞️
The YMG men spend some time out in the sun, work off a sweat, and fancy some good ol’ conversations. It turned out to be a fruitful and wholesome time spent together. Time spent together can both be enriching for the body and soul but when paired with prayer it provides even more nourishment, nourishment for the soul. A young man passerby was captivated and shared his encouragement for all the young men.
One of the members expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the time spent stating “Listening to the hustle and bustle of a good conversation”. Even just the simple gaze of seeing the sincerity and conversation between others can bring about a joy.
🔗Time with the Adelaide Catenians✝️
This month we had the gracious opportunity to join the Catenians for a session following their Ten Commandments series. The Catenians were founded in 1908 in Manchester, England, and are a Catholic international network of men and families who regularly meet with varying activities aimed at building families & friendships, encouraging vocation, supporting the youth and the Catholic community.
It was inspiring to see like-minded men. The depth and commentary of the older men was a delight to hear and witness, as it goes to show the need for younger men to respect and listen to those who are older. May we continue to work with our fellow brothers and ministries, all aimed at sharing and uniting together to bring about change and to transform the world through and to know Christ.
If you’re interested in joining a group like this, feel free to reach out and visit their website for more information.

🔇YMG Members Attend a Silent Retreat 🙏
📅 September 18-20
Silence is often met with discomfort and an uneasy feeling. We are often bombarded with noise in our day-to-day life. Yet what we need and often neglect is the true power of silence. It is here that we find, hear, and can ponder what God is constantly trying to communicate to us daily. The YMG Members were gracious enough to spend time at Sevenhill, led by Fr. Robin Koning. This week-long retreat was a rejuvenating and thought-provoking experience.
It was a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of life. Spending time away from what is often familiar or seemingly mundane, and seeking to find God through nature and spending time outside for prayer helped set the mind at ease to lean into prayer. Fr. Robin helped unpack St. Ignatius’ popularised form of imaginative prayer - which seeks to use our senses, imagination and creativity to ponder and reflect on the Gospel.
If ever you have the chance to attend a silent retreat, I would highly encourage you to. Do it scared. Be sure to prepare your hearts. More often than not, God is stirring something on our hearts that we often feel too scared to dig deeper into.
❤️🔥YMG LEADERSHIP MEETINGS AND FORMATION🤝
As we head closer to the tail end of the year, the leaders continue to commit themselves to weekly Wednesday meetings. These have been a vital opportunity in strengthening the bond, accountability, and building up of YMG. These meetings are awesome checkpoints, a time to step back and encourage each other. We are excited to see the progression of the past year and look forward to the year ahead.
From us to you, we thank you for your ongoing support, whether it be the simplest of powerful prayers or attending events (YMG Conference, YMG Sessions). All of this is not possible without you. The LORD has and will continue to provide for us and we are committed to seeing how His mission for us will unfold. Please keep us in your prayers, as well as our ministry and for all the men you may know.
⚔️FINAL WORD
September reminded us we are not spectators but missionaries sent by the Father.
We strive to go, make disciples, and lead one another deeper into the heart of Christ.
