Called to Real Freedom- July Update
It’s been nearly two months since our annual The Shepherd’s Call Conference, and what an incredible day it was! We welcomed over 125 men of all ages (18 and above) and 10 priests for a day filled with brotherhood, powerful talks, and abundant grace. From morning tea and share groups to inspiring talks from three incredible priests, Adoration, and Holy Mass, it was an annointed day.
The conference was overflowing with blessings and made possible by the incredible efforts of the YMG men, as well as your presence and prayers. Thank you for being part of it.

July was a month of renewed momentum, deeper formation, and stronger brotherhood. We welcomed Fr. Robin Koning, SJ, who gave a powerful talk on lust, purity, and authentic freedom, reminding us that true fulfillment is found only in Christ through repentance and accountability. Alongside our YMG North and South sessions, our leadership team continued growing through daily accountability, prayer, and spiritual reading, beginning with St. Faustina's Diary. As we enter the second half of the year, we're committed to building one another up, staying faithful to our mission, and continuing to grow as men of prayer, purpose, and authentic brotherhood.

We warmly welcomed Fr. Robin Koning, the vocations director for the Jesuits. This session was met with laughter and faith-filled fun as the men started the night off with dinner, followed by a friendly competition as the men battled it out in a very interactive, entertaining, and engaging game of Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza. As the night settled, Fr. Robin proceeded with his preaching following the story of David and his unfortunate downfall regarding lust.
2 Samuel 11 is a powerful story about the spiralling downfall of King David, known to be a righteous man after God’s own heart. David first lacks purpose; he is not at war, taking charge and commanding his troops; he is home alone, away from leadership, and dwells in boredom. The story unfolds as we find King David away from his responsibility of leading the charge in battle. He sees a beautiful woman, Uriah’s wife, bathing on the roof. He is struck by her beauty and from this moment onwards He proceeds in a series of events that are all fueled by the distorted desire of lust. He lays with her. He covers up his tracks by insisting on Uriah's celebration to coerce him into sleeping with his own wife. He tries to persuade him to get drunk. He commands that he be set into the front lines for Uriah to ultimately be killed. Throughout this, Uriah is righteous and refuses. King David is overcome by the devastating effect of lust, wanting to only take and not give of oneself.
What is the resolution? Repentance. David seeks to amend by changing his ways and turning back to the LORD. What we can understand is our fallen nature, the desire for love and fulfilling our sexual needs by distorting it with taking rather than giving of ourselves. We too can find ourselves lacking purpose; we drop our responsibility and continue to seek what instantly gratifies us or feeds our own selfish desires. The damage of lust is that it isolates us, leads us to shame, and bears a fake promise of false connection. This is ultimately a battle WE CANNOT WIN BY OURSELVES but ONLY through CHRIST.

❤️🔥YMG Leadership Meetings & Formation🤝
Our leadership reignites the flame of brotherhood by focusing on building each other up through accountability. The leaders have set the discipline of checking in with their anchor every day, which aims to build, form, and strengthen the leadership. Often, we can find ourselves falling victim to pride, hiding away, or keeping things to ourselves. These anchor check-ins are not simply to recite the day, but to bring about a change in our ways, be called out, be held accountable for our shortcomings, and encourage our brothers. It is one thing to hear a person; it is another to listen and put things into action. When we bring things into the light, out of the darkness, we allow our hearts to change. There is a level of vulnerability that can be uncomfortable, yet it gives us the opportunity to grow. A broken heart is an open heart.
It has been a massive part of the year with the preparation for our annual conference and past events. With that, the last half of the year tends to ease up on events, yet the momentum must continue. With that in mind, the leaders have taken the opportunity to immerse themselves in spiritual reading. Our first session started this month by reading St. Faustina's Diary, which is such a personal, profound, and powerful account of God's yearning to save us. Even after reading just a short passage, we leaders were struck by the beauty with which St. Faustina eloquently describes our tendency to fall away from God, yet also His patience and longing for us to draw near to Him and remain faithful to His greater plan.
Please continue to keep us leaders, the YMG men, and all those you know in your prayers. A little goes such a long way, and we thank you again for your continual support. God bless you all!

July reminded us of the ongoing need for repentance and accountability.
We continue to keep the momentum going, encouraging and lifting up our brothers.
