Armoured in Faith: Brotherhood, Service and Fellowship - May Update

May was a month focused on spiritual warfare, brotherhood, and service. Through our North and South sessions, the men were reminded to put on the armour of God and persevere faithfully in the ordinary battles of daily life. Our BBQ fundraisers provided opportunities to serve the wider Catholic community, while social gatherings strengthened friendships and welcomed new faces into the brotherhood. Behind the scenes, our leaders remained committed to the growth and formation of YMG. We are grateful for everyone whose prayers, support, and generosity continue to help this ministry flourish and bear fruit.

YMG South & North Session - Spiritual Warfare

📅 May 1st 2026 & May 14th

What am I really fighting? is the question we need to remind ourselves DAILY. We are not just fighting a war on the surface but a deep and spiritual war. To paint a picture, we are like in a theatre a curtain is drawn we have one foot outside of it and one foot inside. On foot in the world and one foot in the spiritual world. Our world has been distorted and twisted to believe the devil is not real, and if so, there’s no fear.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. - Charles Baudelaire, 1864

The enemy will lie, accuse and destroy. Lie that you are not capable of winning this fight, accuse you that you are alone and weak, and destroy you if you are not aware of His tactics.

We must understand the battle is the LORDs. We are to face this battle head on, with the strength of the LORD’s not our own.

A soldier does not go into war empty and is lead to believe he will win. He puts on armour, just as we are ought to put on the armour of God. Ephesians.

So I pose to you two questions. What is your Goliath? And whose strength are you relying on, your own or the LORD’s?

Our South sessions were led by one of our South leaders, Charl, who spoke with great conviction about the stark reality of the spiritual battle we are currently facing. The men then competed in teams in a fun activity centred on overcoming the seven deadly sins. Through a quiz, teams earned the opportunity to use Nerf guns to knock down bottles representing each of the seven deadly sins.

In the North, we explored a different yet equally thought-provoking perspective on spiritual warfare: that it can sometimes be… boring. Boring in the sense that we may seek a glorious battle against principalities, when in reality the struggle is often mundane, requiring us to faithfully persevere in the ordinary and remain steadfast in the same spiritual disciplines and routines.

This session also provided an awesome and powerful opportunity to create our own custom, handmade conference rosaries. In addition, the men undertook the meticulous process of crafting a blue glass bead and silver-themed rosary.

🌭BBQ Fundraisers🔥

📅 May 3rd, 10th, 16th, 17th & 24th

We continue with our BBQ fundraisers, with an incredible turnout for our first one this month at Holy Name Church. We were fortunate enough to visit Salisbury and St. Anthony’s Church also. A huge thank you to the warm and lively community, where it was truly all hands on deck, with each man playing a crucial role in serving and conversing about the upcoming Men’s Conference.

These fundraisers continue to offer the perfect opportunity to connect with our Adelaide Archdiocese and the wider Catholic community. It is always encouraging to see the fraternity amongst the men and the willingness of everyone to lend a hand in making these events possible. It goes to show that teamwork really does make the dream work in this instance.

As always, we are grateful for the continued support and generosity shown by the community, and we look forward to many more opportunities to serve, connect, and build up the brotherhood together.

🎳YMG Social Gathering - Bowling

📅 May 9th 2026

The men are at it again with another YMG social gathering. This time ’round, they’re back for a night of bowling, friendly competition, and plenty of laughs. The YMG men certainly brought the energy, with strikes, spares, and perhaps a few gutter balls making for a memorable evening.

Not content with just bowling, the men then entered the laser skirmish arena, where the competitive spirit was dialled up another notch. Teams were formed, strategies were devised (with varying degrees of success), and the battlefield was alive with plenty of action and banter. It was a great opportunity for the men to strengthen friendships, welcome new faces, and continue building the brotherhood that makes YMG such a vibrant community.

Whether on the bowling lanes or ducking behind barriers in laser skirmish, the night was filled with fraternity, laughter, and the kind of camaraderie that keeps the men coming back for more.

❤️‍🔥YMG LEADERSHIP MEETINGS AND FORMATION🤝

The YMG Leaders have committed themselves to formation and nourishment by engaging each Wednesday in the building of YMG. Their dedication is always set on conforming to the will of God, using the strengths and talents bestowed upon them to keep this ministry flowing. Leadership is not a title but an ongoing process at surrendering to the will of the LORD which is often met with various sacrifices and challenges in which bears it fruit with the faithful men who are a part of it.

From us to you, we thank you for your ongoing support, whether it be the simplest of powerful prayers or attending events (YMG Conference, YMG Sessions). All of this is not possible without you. The LORD has and will continue to provide for us and we are committed seeing how His mission for us will unfold. Please keep us in your prayers, as well as our ministry and for all the men you may know.

⚔️FINAL WORD

May reminded us that spiritual battles are fought together through prayer, service, and brotherhood.

We strive to strengthen each brother in faith and friendship.
